Onyx is extracted from underground from varying sites in Mexico and so the stone can differ in colour and beta or origin. Mexico, is one of the largest Onyx mines in America. As a result the local people know how to work the stone like nobody else in Mexico or in fact, the entire world.
The process is 100% artisan. First a stone is chosen, and then it is cut and worked into the desired shape. Next it is buffed and polished with an oxalic acid. At present artisans acquire the raw stone from various places and on some occasions have to travel to choose the stone according to the clients´ requirements.
The manner in which the stone is classified is by colour and by where it was mined. The colour of the onyx has a direct impact on the cost of our products as there are shades and tones which are more difficult to get and there isn’t always availability. The following table lists some of our stone types of onyx and marble.
